A wildfire in Santa Cruz del Valle municipality (Ávila Province, Castile and León, central-west Spain) has caused the preventive evacuation of El Picadero locality. Firefighting operations are being hampered by the complicated orography and density of the vegetation in the area, as well as high temperatures, as reported by the Spanish Department of Homeland Security (DSN).
Meanwhile, the wildfire event in Boiro locality (A Coruña Province, Galicia, north-west Spain) which caused the preventive evacuation of around 700 people from a camping site, (of which 190 required shelter), has been declared level 0 by authorities (improved by still active).
According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the fire risk is expected to be from very high to extreme on 8 and 9 August over most of Spain, including Ávila Province.
