On 2 August, a wildfire broke out in Limassol district. The fire spread rapidly and burned a large area of forest land.
On 6 August, the fire flared up, prompting forces to deploy 12 aircrafts and several hundred firefighters with vehicles from all involved services.
On the same day, Cyprus activated the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, requesting aerial forest fire fighting assistance. Greece responded by deploying 2 Canadairs from the EU’s Civil Protection Pool to support the ongoing operations. Greece also offered liquid retardant.
