Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting central-southern Norway since 6 August, resulting in flooding and triggering landslides and causing casualties and damage.
As of 10 August, more than 5,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, with possibly higher numbers of people who evacuated themselves. Moreover, the Braskereidfoss power dam on the Glomma River (Innlandet County, eastern Norway), partly collapsed after intense rain and widespread floods are affecting the downstream area. Several landslides are also reported, many roads are closed and several train routes are closed to traffic in wide parts of southern Norway.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR683) on 8 August to provide damage assessment.
Many waterways and rivers have still not reached the flood peaks, therefore risks of rising water levels and landslide events remain high.
Over the next 48 hours moderate rainfall is expected over southern Norway. Red and orange warning for flooding and yellow warning for landslides have been issued in the southern part of the Country.
