Assam flood emergency leaves more than one million affected

Situation
Exceptionally heavy monsoon rain triggered widespread flooding in Assam from 19 July, with rainfall in parts of Upper Assam reaching far above seasonal norms. The emergency peaked around 27–28 July when more than 800 villages were inundated. Although water levels later began to recede, an IFRC update said 1,144,733 people remained affected across eight districts and 437 villages, with continuing damage to agriculture, infrastructure and livelihoods.
