
The Provinces of Adiyaman and Sanliurfa in southern Turkey experienced heavy rainfall on 14-15 March, leading to floods, casualties, and extensive damage. This report provides an overview of the situation, including the number of deaths, missing persons, search and rescue operations, and the impact of previous seismic activity.
Deaths and Damage:
As per media reports, the heavy rainfall caused 14 fatalities, with 12 people losing their lives in Sanliurfa and two in Adiyaman. Sanliurfa was hit by 111 mm of rain in 24 hours, while Adiyaman received 136 mm of rainfall in the same period. At present, five people are still missing, with three in Adiyaman and two in Sanliurfa, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and media reports. The floods caused extensive damage to infrastructure and properties in the affected areas.
Search and Rescue Operations:
The national authorities are conducting search and rescue operations in the affected areas. The exact number of people affected is not yet known, but it is believed to be substantial. Rescue teams are working round the clock to find those missing and provide assistance to those affected.
Previous Seismic Activity:
The two Provinces have recently experienced seismic activity, which started on 6 March. This resulted in a high number of fatalities, with more than 48,448 people losing their lives. Additionally, 3,320,000 people were evacuated or left the area by their own means to other provinces, while 800,000 people were internally displaced to villages in their respective provinces. The combination of the seismic activity and heavy rainfall has resulted in further damage and casualties.

On 16-17 March, moderate rain is forecast across Adiyaman and Sanliurfa Provinces. The authorities are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond to any further emergencies.
